ngl unless im doing semi-realism i never use references. even then its rare i actually use them lol. imo draw first, correct with reference later
It might be good to use references at least temporarily so that you can pay close attention to the anatomy, shapes, and proportions of the human body. I've helped my proportions a lot by using references or even tracing stock images for art.
